Opening of the SAZKA Prize 2010 Competition

The SAZKA Prize is the most prestigious acknowledgement of creative work in the realm of contemporary dance in the Czech Republic. It will be awarded for the ninth time by SAZKA a. s. in direct co-operation with Tanec Praha civic association, an organization which co-ordinates the work of the jury as well as the public presentation of concerned artistic works.

Every year SAZKA a. s. supports the artist who creates the most interesting piece with a sum of 400.000 CZK netto intended for the support of the creation of a new piece by the awarded artist (or more artists – authors of one piece). Moreover, the awarded artist gains the opportunity to create and present their new piece at Ponec theatre for free as well as special financial support for publicity, advertising and printing of publicity materials. The above mentioned sum is aimed at covering the expense necessary for the creation of a new piece, such as royalties for artists (for rehearsals and opening show, or even subsequent shows), costumes, scenic design, music, choreography, production, etc. The award provides the artist with the possibility of using the money not only for the creation of a new piece but also for repeated presentations of the piece so that it could be seen by as large public as possible.

Everyone who wants to aspire for the SAZKA Prize has to present the organizers of Czech Dance Platform with a competing piece. The piece has to be presented early enough for the expert jury to be able to see it at time, that is, from the date of the announcement of the competition until December 2009 at the best, until February 15, 2010 at the latest. The piece will then be either recommended for or disqualified from the programme of Czech Dance Platform 2010 on the basis of expert consideration of Czech members of the jury.

Czech Dance Platform stands for the second round of the competition. It will be heldat various Prague venues from April 16 to 20, 2010. The pieces competing in the second round will be judged by an extended jury composed Czech and foreign experts on dance as well as other genres.

SAZKA Prize is intended for professional artists in the domain, that is, even for students of higher years of artistic schools focused on authorial creation (Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts, Duncan Centre conservatory).

Each choreographer can only apply with one piece. The piece must not have been applied with in the preceding years of the SAZKA Prize competition.

The International Jury (composed of at least 7 experts) will watch all the pieces included in the Czech Dance Platform programme. The winners of SAZKA Prize and The Interpretation Prize chosen by the jury will be announced during the 22st edition of TANEC PRAHA festival.

If you aspire for being included in the competition, please fill in the attached application form and send it to the address of Tanec Praha civic association, Jirsíkova 4, 186 00 Praha 8, or via fax to 222 319 576 or via e-mail to office@tanecpraha.cz.

Deadline for submission of application: 1. 12. 2009 at the latest!

Deadline for the life presentation of the piece in front of the jury: 15. 2. 2010 at the latest!

Everyone interested in participation in SAZKA Prize for “discovery in dance” should, in their own interest, inform Tanec Praha civic association early enough about all dates of public presentation of the applied piece so that all the members of the jury could have the opportunity of seeing the piece until February 15, 2010!!! Any piece that will not provide for this opportunity will be disqualified from the Czech Dance Platform programme. Including any piece that was only provided in the form of a DVD recording and not live is possible only under special and well explained circumstances.
